Abstract
My capstone is focused on supporting professionals in the hospitality industry. I chose a service-learning method for this project because I wanted to give back to the hospitality community I have been a part of for over twenty years.
Restaurants and hotels are busier than ever and continue to expand while being incredibly understaffed. Workers are often stretched thin, underpaid, and chronically stressed while also lacking resources and support in the workplace. So, how can we provide these resources and offer more support to this vital segment of the workforce? Most restaurants are operating with profit margins of 3-5% which is why resources like health insurance, 401k's, and human resource departments aren't typically offered. Given this reality, hospitality professionals need to have the knowledge and resources to navigate these topics on their own.
In an effort to provide hospitality workers with community, resources, and sustainability in the workplace, I created a blog called Full Service Solutions, covering a range of topics including mental health, work-life balance, and harm reduction strategies. Full Service Solutions will eventually expand to offering financial advice, human resource guidance, and advice for attaining affordable health insurance. My goal in creating this blog is to fill the gaps for hospitality professionals and provide actionable advice and resources they can utilize to find stability while pursuing a career in hospitality.
