Abstract
Innovative educational strategies and initiatives are needed to address the learning needs and preferences of rural nurses. Recruiting and retaining nurses in geographically remote regions is often highly dependent on access to continuing professional education. Geographical, financial, and technological constraints are associated with limited access to continuing educational opportunities. This chapter focuses on distance educational infrastructures and instructional techniques used in transition-to-practice programs for supporting rural nurses' learning needs, maintaining professional competence, and developing expertise.
