Abstract

I chose to address a problem that has existed at our airline since I began as a new crew member, 6 years ago. Crew domicile orientations is an informal process, where the information provided by the company can be hard to find on the company website, and difficult to interpret once located. In an attempt to make the transfer process easier and less stressful for new and more experienced employees alike, creating a consolidated guide that is easy to follow was my goal.

Our company has 18 crew domiciles, some of which are incredibly complicated. In order to prove the viability of a domicile orientation guide, I chose to use Boise airport to build a test version that I can present to the company as proof of concept. Once approved, the resource can be adapted to the more complicated airports where our crew members are based. The guide will include instructions on how to navigate the company portal to find relevant information that is specific to becoming situated, as well as information that is not related to the company, like accommodations and transport information for commuters, for example. The blending of official and unofficial resources is a unique approach to alleviate information overload and unnecessary stress.
