Abstract

This project includes the importance of providing teens in middle school with the opportunity to connect with their peers and community and build leadership and service skills. When done in a setting where youth feel safe and have a send of belonging, it can help create a generation of resilient, collaborative, and innovative thinkers and doers. This project will go over personal results, challenges, and successes that was found through local, community and school service events with a junior high Builders Club in Idaho. Through research, it has been shown that the development of these skills for teens can boost personal, social, and academic development. It is also more likely that they will engage in helping and serving others if they begin participating in service activities during their developmental years. As this social-emotional learning develops, in a safe environment, teens will find success in school, work, and life through strong interpersonal skills.
