Abstract

My name is Robyn Bohn. I’m a high school business teacher in Nampa, Idaho. COVID has decimated our local Business Professionals of America chapter. The 495 Applied Leadership capstone project titled Modeling the Way is my creative journey working with our new student leadership team to create a recruiting program.

During this project, I led the group through a workshop to creatively address the root cause of the lack of student participation. The student leaders decided that designing a poster series with 4 different perspectives would reach the largest audience. To further engage the interested young men and women, we also recorded, edited, and published a video accessed by QR code that was displayed on each poster. The video summarized the benefits of joining BPA and ended with student comments, in their own words, about their favorite fun activity, event, or competition. After several rounds of edits, the posters were printed and hung in the three high schools in the Nampa School District. Data was collected to track the number of times the QR code was accessed. In conclusion, the poster series project was a creative and engaging way for the student leaders to create excitement and increase participation in our Business Professionals of America program. I was inspired by their vision and proud to lead their efforts.
