Abstract

Applying personal skills, knowledge and ideas acquired from the Interdisciplinary Professional Studies program to successfully complete a community park project. How might I work to make improvements and update portions of Mary Alice Park, a publically funded and maintained community space? The use of soft skills, innovative and creative thinking, gathering data, input and doing research were all part of this process and the project. Volunteers were coordinated and gathered for one four hour period of time where the sandbox was cleaned, restructured and improved, large wooden furniture was sanded and prepared for paint, and extensive landscaping projects were completed. This project benefited the community, the creator and maintainer of the park as well the volunteers who took park in the work day. Results of the project and insight as to what IPS skills were used are highlighted.
