Idaho Reentry Pilot Program

Additional Funding Sources

The project described was supported by a student grant from the UI Office of Undergraduate Research.

Abstract

This poster presents work completed on two different projects, both relating to prison research and programming within Idaho. The first project involves the construction of surveys and interview questions to be distributed to inmates before and after taking part in a newly implemented prerelease program at the Idaho Correctional Institution in Orofino (ICIO). The data collected from the surveys will provide information on identity change, confidence building, and skills acquired during the prerelease program. It is all part of a bigger project to create a working prerelease program at ICIO that aids in reducing recidivism. The second project involves identifying and communicating with government officials in rural counties across Idaho with the goal of securing grant funds in order to build a community of local stakeholders interested in engaging in the collection and analysis of rural jail data. Stakeholders include local sheriffs, prosecutors, and others. If funded, the data gathered from this study will be used to create policy recommendations in Idaho to help aid in reducing crime.
