Abstract

Exploring Idaho libraries and the safe places they provide people of all ages, incomes, and backgrounds. These historic community institutions have been under attack from local, regional, and national legislative bodies and political activists who scrutinize the content of books, the people who utilize these spaces, those that work in them and the leaders who support them.

I set out to bring attention to how these public spaces provide a sense of belonging and safety as well as a place to learn and connect. I want to show how these spaces provide inspiration through the intentional architecture of their facilities and the community these facilities foster.
