Abstract
Climate change is one of the greatest threats that humankind has ever faced. With such a great threat looming over us, there must be something that can fight against climate change. It turns out that the solution to climate change is right below our feet. Through collaboration with the Boise Urban Garden School (BUGS), we created a lesson plan highlighting the importance of soil in the fight against climate change. With inspiration from soil biogeochemist Dr. Asmeret Asefaw Berhe’s soil comic, “What’s Soil Got to Do with Climate Change?” and TedTalk of the same name, we created interactive educational activities to grapple the importance of the connection between soil and climate change. The current educational standards of Idaho lack the information students need to make the connection between soil and climate change, so we saw it fit to create our own lesson plan and activities.
