Abstract
Cerebral palsy (CP) is a group of disorders that affect a person’s ability to move and maintain balance and posture. Our client is a high school student with CP and needs a more effective way to navigate his computer using only his right foot, which will afford him the ability to develop employable computer skills. We will be testing different input devices based and computer software that can be used to build our client’s computer skills. These solutions will be evaluated based on simplicity and compatibility with Assistive Context-Aware Toolkit (ACAT), an open source communication software designed for people with severe disabilities. Through our tests, we will determine which input device works best given our client’s constraints for computer navigation and will provide his educational support team with a list of computer resources that meet defined criteria for utility. We will present our solution to this design challenge with the recommended configuration for input and support for computer skill building with the evaluation data and conclusions.
