Abstract

This is a literary research poster that focuses on the literary and personal relationship between Edith Wharton and Henry James. In this research, I am looking into their history together, the way that they have contributed to each other’s work, and critiques on Edith Wharton’s work, which seems to be very similar to Henry James’s work. I will do this through the uses of literary journals, biographies, and letters between the two during their friendship. I am interested in their connection and how that has shaped the way that people look at the two authors, Wharton especially, due to the fact that there have been critiques of Wharton that mention she has a similar style as James, she is a ‘protégé’ of his, and that she was heavily influenced by him. This relationship between the two authors seems to be important, especially when talking about Wharton’s work, so this research will help uncover why the connection is important and give a brief idea of how authors may influence one another.
