Abstract
According to Plastic Ocean Foundation in 2018, more than 8 million tons of plastic were dumped into our oceans. The New York Post corroborates and says that 90% of this plastic comes from just 10 rivers, while the rest comes from smaller river systems, such as the Columbia River Watershed which includes the Boise and Snake rivers. However, this only makes up about 10 percent of the plastic produced each year, according to a Greenpeace report. The goal of this study is to discover how water current affects the way plastic flows to the ocean, how much plastic moves downstream, and what quantity of that plastic and other plastic discarded in our rivers makes its way to the sea.
