Abstract

At a cursory glance the University looks to be a radically different place than it was a few decades ago. Women now make up the majority of those earning bachelor's degrees and people of color are enrolling in ever increasing numbers. This change in demographics is not yet having the desired effect on society as lack of representation in the workforce and politics as well as wealth and income gaps remain a problem for people of color and women. This is all occurring in a time of massive income inequality and the defunding of the university leading to the adoption of business model for education funding. The persistence of these inequalities led me to ask what can university student discourses reveal about patterns to perpetuate gender and race based disadvantages.
