Abstract

This thesis is divided into two sections. The first contains chapters one through five of a novel, Trigger Men, written between early 2009 and the spring of 2010. The novel is about a perpetual loser, Ronald Buck, who turns police informant on his murderously feuding neighbors after fouling up a convenience store robbery. The second section is a collection of five short stories written between the summer of 2007 and the fall of 2008. The stories explore various facets of American manhood, from adolescence to fatherhood.
