Abstract

Vallivue School District designed and implemented a benchmark assessment system to predict student achievement on the Idaho Standardized Achievement Tests. This study analyzed the reading subject area data for 1,385 students in grades six, seven, and eight from the 201 0-2011 school year, and Pearson Product Moment correlations were computed based on the winter administration of the benchmark assessment. Scatterplots were developed to assist in the interpretation of the data, and recommendations for expanding this analysis to additional grade levels and subject areas were made as a result of the findings. An additional recommendation suggested developing cut scores that are sensitive to each subject area and grade level assessed; problems inherent to the concept of a blanket cut score were highlighted.
