Abstract
A Texas family embarks on a journey as missionaries in Northern Ukraine, along the Russian border. Left alone with her son, Jules must forge relationships to justify their sudden presence in the locals’ lives. After meeting Vladimir, a local in town, Jules finds connection and self-exploration, which comes at the cost of an unexpected separation from her son. Set amidst the backdrop of violence after the failed 2013 EU Bill, the novel explores the family’s true reasons for coming to Ukraine.
