Abstract
While the worlds encountered here may not be immediately recognizable as our own, the ideas and emotions dealt with are all rooted in the most basic elements of humanity. The characters in these stories—alive or dead—struggle to exist within a system that feels constantly stacked against them, where relief is often difficult to obtain and more difficult to enjoy. Often, a cycle of destructive behavior is left unbroken in favor of a simple recognition that it can never actually be broken.
