Abstract
A study of our nation’s schools, commissioned by the American Association of University Women’s Educational Foundation and developed by the Wellesley College Center for Research on Women, challenges the common assumption that girls and boys in this country receive an equal education. The AAUW Report: How Schools Shortchange Girls, published in 1992, is a synthesis of all the available research on the subject of girls in school and presents compelling evidence of considerable gender bias permeating our educational system.
