Showing Support to Small and Local Companies in Your Community: How Necessary is It?

Logan M. Oreno, Boise State University

Abstract

The purpose of this project was to investigate how necessary small businesses are for their communities and what consumers do to support these businesses. I was able to provide an anonymous survey and received 80 responses to questions including consumer demographic and how people choose to support small a local businesses. Only 2.5% of respondents disagreed that small and local businesses are essential to their community. Respondents were also more likely to share support for small and local businesses via word of mouth instead of through social media or buying products, services, etc. These results were able to show that community members will choose to support small and local businesses. They also helped me to decide how I could help the cause with one company.
