Abstract

For my capstone, I wanted to address the national decline in bird population in North America and ways the average community member could go about mending it. We met twice a week to go on walks and hikes in order to learn more about our native landscape and then would have group discussions to address what we could all be doing to improve bird habitat as well as look into the biggest factors in their population decline. We had members stop using pesticides on their lawns which helps bring more food for birds, as well as a few members, grow native gardens to help with habitat fragmentation and provide food sources for birds and bugs.

Birds are critical to our environment and I think we all take small easy steps in order to bring back a robust and diverse population and this project proved just that. Attached below is my presentation on the project.
