The Department of Mathematics offers Bachelor’s degrees in Mathematics and Applied Mathematics with possible emphases in Statistics and Secondary Education. In addition to mastering specific mathematical content, mathematics majors develop excellent general skills in problem solving and precise analytical thinking. Graduates of the program are prepared for more advanced study in mathematics itself, or for careers in any of the increasingly wide variety of areas where mathematical tools and thinking play an essential role. Topics of interest range from Cryptology to Statistics, from Differential Equations to Mathematics Pedagogy. The Senior Project allows students to engage in independent mathematical work in an active and modern subject area of the mathematical sciences, guided by an official research faculty member in the department of mathematics. Students share their work in a variety of formats and present their work at the Senior Showcase held each semester in the department.
