A Pumpkin Predator

Abstract

Pumpkin and squash pests commonly known as "squash bugs" have heckled farmers for decades. The well known insect in the agricultural community prey on precious crops causing major complications such as widespread plant wilt and death following. Little research has been documented to provide insight on the species of Anasa tristis. In an attempt to better understand what attracts and repels squash bugs, we have conducted a various amount of experiments. The experiments were based on theories of color and scent recognition, as well as a distraction approach to deter in hopes of minimizing crop damage. Minimal data and results were concluded due to the irregular weather patterns in the north western region of the United States.
