Abstract

America has an unhealthy relationship with trash. We are constantly buying more things and throwing them away shortly after. These consumption patterns are having dire consequences on the three pillars of sustainability: the environment, the economy, and society. Despite all the implications garbage presents in each realm, the future is promising; large scale changes and individual action can bring our dirty love affair with trash to an end.
