Abstract
Trust has been identified as an important factor in effective natural resource management. This research will focus on how those who live around Marsh Creek, a stream located in rural southeast Idaho, trust several government agencies involved in its management. How government agencies in the Marsh Creek area build and maintain that trust may affect what one agency can do in an given area. Several agencies, including the Natural Resources Conservation Service and Idaho Department of Environmental Quality, work in the Marsh Creek area in water quality and water resource management issues. How have the community relationships and reputations of these agencies affected the community's trust towards them? Does the community know of these organizations or that their programs exist? With what these agencies have done, how has those interactions affected the trust of the Marsh Creek Community? In order to address these important questions and issues of trust, we will base our analysis off of the results from our survey given to community members in the Marsh Creek area and compare that with what each individual agency has been able to do in that area. This is important to know, because it can help our government agencies be more effective in being able to work in the marsh creek area, from knowing where their “trust stands” in that area. Thus making them aware of their current status to be able to improve and move forward in conducting business in the Marsh Creek area.
