Abstract

In Idaho, nitrate is one of the most widespread contaminants in groundwater and is mainly responsible for the degradation of groundwater. Working to understand why these groundwater nitrate levels are rising is particularly important. There is an immediate need for further research about causes for increasing nitrate levels in the Lindsay Creek area, and potential effects of stream and groundwater interactions. This research provides baseline nitrate levels in Lindsay Creek capturing seasonal changes in water levels through collections of basic water quality data including temperature, pH, conductivity, and nitrate levels. All data is collected insitu using an ion-selective probe for nitrate collection. The results concluded that the nitrate level in Lindsay Creek varied throughout the period of three months.
