Abstract
A goal of public health is to educate and promote individual health maintenance practices. Education on these practices is difficult to deliver to the public, particularly to those in rural areas. With the development of wearable technology, such as smart watches and activity trackers, health education and self-monitoring can all be done right at a user’s fingertips. Current wearable technology can monitor vital statistics and encourage an active lifestyle, making health maintenance not only easy for individuals but enjoyable. In this research, I examine the current utilization of wearable technology in the healthcare field and how that could be expanded to improve the public health of rural areas.
