Abstract
Material printing can create arbitrary structures and it will be invaluable if the technology can be applied to print optical waveguides, gratings or oscillators. To take a step towards this, we report a step-by-step process for inkjet printing of chalcogenide glass. Chalcogenide glasses are phase change materials that are widely used in electrical and optical memory because of their high refractive index, transparency in infrared (IR) region and thermally driven amorphous-to-crystalline phase change. To obtain printed chalcogenide glass structures, we developed a comprehensive printing process that involves glass synthesis, nanoparticle ink formation, printing, post-processing and also characterization.
