Abstract

The Treasure Valley Aquifer System contains well-documented uranium concentrations exceeding the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) drinking water standard of 30 µg/L. A large water quality dataset has been compiled including well sample measurements of uranium and other water quality constituents. Preliminary results indicate high uranium concentrations at high variability, geographic hotspots of high uranium concentrations, and elevated concentrations associated with shallow depths. Uranium concentrations also appear to depend on the redox status of the environment. The knowledge gained in this study will provide natural resource managers in the Treasure Valley with important groundwater management recommendations.
