Abstract
Adults do not exercise sufficiently to meet the 2018 Physical Activity Guidelines. Leisure time physical activity is not considered a Hispanic cultural norm. Hispanics are more likely to be obese, refrain from leisure-time activities, and die from complications of diabetes or liver disease at twice the rate of non-Hispanic whites. A five-week quality improvement project was designed in collaboration with Faith Community Nurses and conducted at two Catholic Churches. Educational sessions were centered around the Hispanic core value of familism. At the end of the project, participants were engaging in leisure time physical activity and had decreased their sedentary time.
