Abstract
This senior design project entails the renovation of a church camp located north of Ketchum, Idaho, Cathedral Pines. The campsite covers 18 acres, bounded by the Big Wood River to the north. Cathedral Pines is the current venue for a children’s oncology camp, Camp Rainbow Gold, held annually and sponsored through the American Cancer Society-Great West Division. Camp Rainbow Gold has evolved over the last 29 years into a life-changing experience for children with cancer. Cathedral Pines is located in the picturesque Sawtooth Mountains and serves as a place of healing and fun for children affected by cancer. Due to the success of the camp and the ever increasing number of participants, it has become necessary to renovate Cathedral Pines and increase its capacity from 150 to 300 people. The renovation includes additions and upgrades to existing facilities, construction of new facilities, road expansion and parking lot improvements, as well as wastewater and drinking water system upgrades. We have designed a new arts and crafts facility and a new medical facility, expanded the dining facility, and improved the existing cabins. We have also incorporated an advanced wastewater treatment system. The renovation will allow Camp Rainbow Gold to increase its capacity to serve those children and their families affected by cancer.
