Abstract
In this paper, we have proposed an algorithm for gain optimization of electronically steerable parasitic array radiator (ESPAR) antennas. Typically, ESPAR antennas have a circular array of parasitic elements around a central active (driven) element. Parasitic element are loaded with the variable reactances such that the antenna beam can be steered by varying the reactance set. We have optimized gain of the ESPAR antenna by using the trust region reflective algorithm. After optimization, peak directivity of the antenna is 10.01 dBi (φ=0° ). Prior to the optimization, peak directivity of the antenna was 8.04 dBi (φ=0° ). A gain increment of 1.97 dB is achieved.
