Abstract
Crosscorrelatingwavefields recorded at two receivers to produce data as ifone receiver was a source is commonly referred to asseismic interferometry, or the virtual source method. An artifact inseismic interferometry related to critically refracted waves allowed us toestimate the velocity in the refracting layer. In addition, wedevised a new semblance analysis on the crosscorrelation of reflectionand refraction energy to robustly estimate the depth and velocityof the slow layer, tested with a numerical example andfield data from the Boise Hydrogeophysical Research Site.
