Abstract
Our project was to examine the issues regarding the Ada County Landfill and the project that it has taken on with a company that turns waste products into energy by using a process called gasification. There are many obstacles in the way of completing the project so that it can be operational including lawsuits, incomplete studies, and many citizens that say they were misled. With Federal funding for the project close to expiring, contracts were exchanged quickly and so many people think that it could have been handled more transparently. That being said, all of the research surrounding the gasification process points to a very economical and relatively safe way to produce energy. Our research shows that the technology is there, and it would definitely benefit the treasure valley if it was done transparently, and the energy was sold on the market so the true value of the benefits would be reflected.
