Artist Statement

Challenging social taboos through stories of women and their monthly struggles is the main objective of my work. These stories from myself and others are represented by a chair and a stain of their embarrassment. This is clearly told by the paint bleeding through the fabric and fibers. There are millions of tales of this taboo that affects women every day, and that is where I get my inspiration for my work. Adding texture with embroidered thread and wool fibers helps create depth and emphasis. I chose embroidery because it can also be associated as feminine. My hope is to encourage conversation about women’s hidden struggles.
