Artist Statement
Fluidity
Male
Female
In-between
Something of a beauty queen
A self-confident king
Fitting in to not one or the other
Fluidly shape shifting like water
Born as a daughter
Raised as a man
Shopping in the boy section
Call me by my male name
I can be one of the boys
Stay out late in the streets
Run
Run
Run
Until ten did I discover what
it meant to be female
Girls got attention
Boys a distraction
The star
Dressing like a girl
Acting how the are
Not sure you are comfortable with the suffocating tights
The bras
Thongs
The horror of it all
Give me a t-shirt and some baggy shorts
Because this girl shit is the worst
I adapted
Society reacted
Pleasantly to the fact
That I was playing the role of a woman
But I am water
I am the moon and the sun
I am this for no one
Other than me
A deer
A buck
Miss
Mister
Neutral blood creeps through me
I can no longer hear the whispers
I can finally see
That no specific gender belongs to me
Through color
Light
Your perception of others is through sight
Wavelengths
Vibrations
Currents
Fluid
Fluidity
Just like me
Like you
Let us look closer
Of what society’s beliefs on gender have put us through
Accept me
Love me
For who I am
Is a woman
And a man
