Artist Statement
To cope is to manage, handle, survive. We as a human race have learned to cope with life through all of the muddled experiences that is existing. For some the coping mechanisms are healthy; therapy, movie nights with friends, going running in the hills. For others coping becomes an area of grey. I am exploring what it is to cope. How it changes, intensifies, heals, or destroys.
Within this series several coping mechanisms are illustrated using Indian Inks on water color paper. The water color style of painting speaks to the slightly altered reality that each coping tool leads the mind to. Often coping is a search for a reprieve from the current reality. It is to escape in one way or another. This series is my amnesty.
