Summary & Purpose

Snow surface albedo is a crucial component to the energy balance of our seasonal snowpack on planet Earth, reflecting most of the incoming solar radiation, and maintaining cool snow surface temperatures. It is therefore important for us to understand the spatial and temporal distributions of snow properties. Snow albedo can be estimated from satellite remote sensing, however, pixels from images often contain other surfaces (i.e., mixed pixels). To help validate modeling and remote sensing studies, we provide a dataset that spans from 2022-2023 for sites in Idaho and Colorado and includes 4 measurements of spectral snow albedo, total solar irradiance, and diffuse irradiance, 5 measurements of spectral snow reflectance, and 7 measurements of spectral reflectance of conifer needles. We hope this dataset is helpful in future validation efforts and algorithm development for snow related products.

Comments

Dataset Update 11/20/2023: Typo corrected from previous version (20230605) affecting units for column headers of *.csv files. All data that include "_W_cm2_sr_nm" should actually be in the units "_W_m2_sr_nm". All of the actual data is correct, they were just mislabeled.
