Artist Statement
This poster design represents the human rights to freedom to opinion and expression, Article 19. The scribbles over the mouth are symbolic of someone's voice, their opinions and their ways of expression, not being allowed. The action of rubbing the marks away from the mouth, smudging it onto the hands, is a powerful representation of breaking down those barriers, and fears of expression; its shows the freedom. The hand drawn type is an important part of the poster, as it is expressive, and adds to the meaning. The design and the overall image are to create a strong and impactful representation of this human right.
