Abstract

Poor psychological functioning is associated with high incidences of trauma exposure. The present study examined the relationship between reported trauma and measures of physiological stress responses when attempting to answer ten rounds of basic arithmetic problems. Participants were undergraduate college students who attended a Northwestern University and received class credit in exchange for participation. The researchers predicted that greater trauma exposure would be related to higher physiological responses to stress. The purpose of this study was to gain a better understanding of the relationship between those who have experienced trauma and the manner in which they cope with stressful circumstances.
