Abstract

Access to green spaces has been increasingly recognized as an important determinant of health, yet disparities in availability and use remain widespread. This project examines how access to parks, trails, and other natural environments influences both physical and mental health outcomes. Our research question asks: How does access to green spaces affect physical and mental health? To address this question, we will conduct a literature review of peer-reviewed research articles and public health reports that evaluate associations between green space exposure and health indicators. We will also analyze data related to park access, physical activity rates, and reported mental health outcomes. Based on existing research, we expect to find that greater access to green spaces is associated with increased physical activity, reduced stress, improved mood, and lower risk of chronic disease. This topic is significant because green space access is shaped by environmental planning, socioeconomic factors, and public policy, making it a modifiable determinant of health.
