Abstract
In my research and paper included in this project, the subject concerns the novel “White Noise” by Don Delillo that incorporates the ideas of how consumer culture has influenced the underlying fears of death that fill the unsuspecting mind, as we see in the family dynamic in the novel. My research consists of text primarily, as well as articles from academic journals that are on the same subject as my research paper. This research is for my Capstone class, where we are revising a paper we worked on and submitted from a previous class, allowing for new ideas and expansion on our past ideas and writing. As I continue my research on this topic, finding more sources to incorporate from the singular source I needed for my paper initially, I am expanding on my previous ideas so I can find more information and thoughts on this ever-fascinating topic. My overall subject is how the fear of death, primarily from the Delillo novel, interacts with consumer culture, such as marketing and advertising that we see in the world every day, and how that impacts one’s “unassuming” fear of death.
