Abstract
Although not universally experienced, music festivals can serve as an environment for fostering social connection and community engagement. This research will examine the social and cognitive benefits of attending music festivals by addressing the following research question: What are the impacts of outdoor music festivals on perceived social connectedness and psychological well-being among adults? Evidence will be collected via a comprehensive literature review of peer-reviewed articles to evaluate music festivals as a determinant of health, specifically focusing on social identity and collective effervescence theories. It is anticipated that this literature review will reveal a range of social, psychological, and physiological benefits, justifying festivals as a determinant of health. This topic is significant because of the interpersonal, communal, and personal benefits of outdoor musical events. Music festivals would serve as a determinant of health due to enhancing cultural expression, promoting diversity and inclusion, stimulating local economies, and encouraging present-moment awareness.
