Abstract

As access to outdoor green space becomes increasingly limited, indoor gardening increases in popularity. Indoor gardening refers to the access and maintenance of houseplants in residential spaces. This poster will use a systematic review of the literature on how houseplants affect our health and well-being, specifically as it relates to stress reduction. The research question guiding our inquiry is: How do indoor houseplants influence physical and emotional health? According to Hassan and Deshun (2023), 95% of a person’s activities happen indoors. Studies have shown short term exposure to houseplants results in lower levels of stress (Ma, 2022). This research aims to discover and communicate more about the correlation between having house plants and stress levels.
