Abstract

Dementia is a progressive neurocognitive disorder that impacts memory, communication, behavior, and results in a persistent loss of intellectual function. This poster will cover how caregivers can use personalized music therapy to improve cognitive function and reduce neuropsychiatric symptoms in patients with dementia. This study is based on an analysis of existing peer-reviewed research articles examining the use of personalized music by caregivers in dementia care. This study aims to raise awareness of how personalized music can improve the quality of life for patients with dementia. Additionally, this study considers how structured use of music therapy may improve communication between patient and caregiver, reduce caregiver stress, and support individualized care rather than pharmaceutical care. This topic is significant because many dementia related symptoms are treated with medication, which can cause other unwanted side effects. Using music as an alternative treatment option offers a safer, non-drug approach that caregivers can easily use in daily care. Overall, this poster encourages conversation and brings awareness about how music can impact the well-being and everyday life of individuals with dementia.
