Abstract

As the development and implementation of artificial intelligence (AI) rapidly increase, understanding consumer perceptions is critical. This study provides insight into consumer views of AI across ethical, trust, privacy, and usage dimensions, all of which influence adoption. Survey-based research was conducted with a sample of n = 121 respondents using Likert-scale questions. Data were analyzed in SPSS using descriptive statistics (mean, median, mode, standard deviation, minimum, and maximum), with AI-based tools used for replication and validation. Results indicate great concern regarding privacy and transparency, alongside generally low trust in AI systems. Despite this skepticism, respondents reported a moderate-to-high willingness to use AI, revealing a clear gap between concern and behavior. Perceptions of bias were mixed, with responses centered near the midpoint (mean = 4.96), suggesting uncertainty about fairness in AI. These results reveal a disconnect between trust and actual usage, suggesting that adoption is outpacing confidence. To approach this, businesses need to prioritize transparency, address privacy concerns, and demonstrate principled AI practices while sustaining convenience. Organizations that can bridge the gap will be better positioned to gain a competitive advantage in the evolving AI landscape.
