Abstract

The College Fed Challenge is an annual competition hosted by the U.S. Federal Reserve in which undergraduate teams analyze economic and financial conditions and present monetary policy recommendations. The Boise State Fed Challenge Team studies key sectors of the economy, including labor, housing, and financial markets, with special attention to the connections among them. Our analysis also considers how different policy choices affect these markets and the emerging risks facing both the real economy and the financial system. To enrich our work, we engage with external stakeholders, including local bankers and investors, who share their perspectives on current economic conditions. Our poster showcases the automated tools we have developed to update our analysis as new data are released by the Federal Reserve System and government agencies such as the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) and the Bureau of Economic Analysis (BEA). Our poster also summarizes our current assessment of the economy and our policy recommendations.
