Abstract

Urban design plays a critical role in shaping population health by influencing physical activity, environment exposure, and social interaction. Well-designed urban environments can encourage physical activity and lower the risk of chronic diseases. Access to parks, green spaces, and pedestrian-friendly infrastructure has also been linked to improved mental health, reduced stress, and stronger social connections. In contrast, poorly planned environments may contribute to pollution exposure, limited mobility, increased stress, and significant health disparities among different socioeconomic groups. This study will examine how built environment features influence health behaviors and outcomes, while also identifying which populations benefit most from health-supportive infrastructure. To investigate these relationships, we will analyze and report data from peer reviewed research. This inquiry aims to better understand how urban design influences daily health outcomes. Understanding the relationship between urban design and health, highlights the importance of integrating public health principles into city planning to improve overall well being and health equity.
