Abstract

Parenting style plays a crucial role in child development and serves as a determinant of health. The way a parent supports, communicates, and disciplines their child will be remembered and carried with them into adulthood. Parents are responsible for so much of their child’s well-being. They do a range of things from providing them with basic needs and nourishment to making many decisions such as their participation in extracurricular activities. This presentation will explore how different parenting styles can influence and impact a child's health. Our research question asks, “How do different parenting styles influence an individual's overall mental, physical, and social health?” The expected outcome of this research will show that children who grow up with authoritative parents (supportive and encouraging), will demonstrate more positive mental and physical health, better academic standing, and more involvement within the community compared to a child with an authoritarian parental figure.
