Abstract

Overall well-being is influenced by a range of determinants, including physical, mental/emotional, and social factors. All of these determinants play a role in short-term and long-term health outcomes. Line dancing is a form of social dance that increases the fun of physical activity by adding music and social interaction, thereby contributing to multiple determinants of health at once. This research examines the impact of line dancing on overall well-being by diving into its effects on physical, mental/emotional, and social connectedness. Research shows participation in this dance style can support cardiovascular fitness, balance, coordination, and muscular strength and endurance while increasing cognitive function by exercising memory and movement patterns. Furthermore, the social nature of line dancing promotes interpersonal interaction, community involvement, a sense of belonging, and stepping out of one’s comfort zone, all key components of social health. This dance style is easily accessible and enjoyable, which can contribute to long-term motivation and adherence to physical activity.
