Abstract

This project explores how small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in the medical spa (med spa) industry can leverage data analytics to enhance operational performance. Focusing on key areas such as capacity management, inventory optimization, demand forecasting, and distribution strategies, the research aims to identify data-driven approaches that improve efficiency and support better decision-making. The med spa industry, as a fast-growing and service-oriented sector with unique regulatory and customer experience challenges, presents a valuable context for studying the practical application of analytics in business operations. This research involves a) a literature review of peer-reviewed articles, b) the collection of primary data through semi-structured interviews (n=3) from both buyers and suppliers in the industry, c) content analysis, d) and the proposition of actionable strategies for operational improvement. Key themes include managing large product inventories (often over 250 SKUs), adapting to seasonal demand shifts, and coordinating with multiple vendors. Common issues such as stockouts, product waste, and over-ordering often stem from limited forecasting tools. The project contributes to a broader understanding of how emerging businesses in niche healthcare markets can adopt analytical tools to remain competitive and agile.
